Some people use the term polvorón interchangeably with mantecado (which we also sell), but the truth is that they are different enough that a connoisseur like yourself will appreciate the difference!

Polvorones are made with the addition of almond, about 5%. This produces a much crumblier texture, which is accentuated by the lack of egg white as a binding agent. This gives rise to the traditional practice of squeezing the polvoron in your hand before opening it, to avoid getting crumbs everywhere.

These polvorones are truly little mouthfuls of heaven. The manufacturer has left the almond quite coarsely ground, so you get an almost crunchy texture. There's just the right amount of cinnamon and anís, giving a pleasantly festive flavour, and the addition of a light icing sugar tops off what must be the one of the worlds great biscuits!
